Waiting for IKEA

Sunday 22nd November 7.00pm €15

We have extended the comedy festival this year to incorporate the new Comedy Theatre Festival. We plan to grow the festival over the coming years to incorporate the very best comedy plays.

We are delighted to present the the hilarious hit comedy play "Waiting for IKEA". This is he first show to sell-out in the history of the Dublin Fringe Festival in advance of opening and it has had many more sell out runs since. Set in the heart of 'new' Dublin, where night wear is day wear and bitching is everywhere, Waiting for IKEA is a sharp and nostalgic comedy exploring the bittersweet world of two best friends in inner city Dublin.

WAITING FOR IKEA

Waiting for IKEA is the side-splitting story of friendship, family, community and sunbed obsessives. The critically acclaimed production premiered at the 2007 Dublin Fringe Festival where it was nominated for The Bewley's Café Theatre Award, The Fishamble New Writing Award and was the first show in the history of the festival to sell out in advance of opening. The show continues to be a box office hit selling out in five different venues.

Set in the heart of 'new' Dublin, where night wear is day wear and bitching is everywhere, Waiting for IKEA is a sharp and nostalgic comedy exploring the bittersweet world of two best friends in inner city Dublin. Written and performed by real-life friends Georgina McKevitt and Jacinta Sheerin, the play tells the story of Chrissie and Jade who spend their days waiting; waiting for the postman, waiting for the kettle to boil and waiting for Coronation Street. They won't shop in Argos 'cos we're waiting for IKEA'.

Pimlico flats is akin to 'Cheers', everybody knows your name, your business, your record and what you are having for dinner. Nothing much changes in Pimlico, each day begins and ends the same; it's what happens in between that keeps the neighbours interested. The only current affairs these girls are concerned with is whether Mrs Dignam is having it off with Gunner Eye Gilby. The Celtic tiger has been and gone and they never even stroked it. "Recession - is that a new fragrance by Calvin Klein?"

"I loved it...if you want to escape from the doom and gloom then this is the show for you"
Róisín Ingle, The View RTE

"The script is sharp and laugh out loud funny…Sheerin and Mc Kevitt clearly belong on stage…this is a fresh, funny and enjoyable show". ****
Ruth Kennedy Irish Theatre Magazine

"Sheerin and Mc Kevitt inhabit their roles with credibility. Everyone likes to laugh and the duo are bang on the funny bone."
Gerry Colgan The Irish Times
